NATO commander warns Russia against attacking alliance territory
On October 12, 2026, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), U.S. General Alexus Grynkewich, issued a stern warning to Moscow during the Warsaw Security Forum. He emphasized that while NATO remains a defensive alliance, it is fully prepared to repel and neutralize any attack against a member state. Grynkewich presented a 'theory of victory,' stating that the alliance would ensure any such aggression is rendered 'utterly futile.
In addition to repelling direct attacks, the general warned that NATO's response would extend to the infrastructure and command centers supporting the aggressor. Despite the strong rhetoric, Grynkewich assessed that the risk of a large-scale conventional Russian attack remains relatively low, as Moscow’s military resources are currently heavily committed to the war in Ukraine. However, he acknowledged the ongoing threat of hybrid warfare, including sabotage and arson, which requires a clear and unified response from allies. Meanwhile, the head of German intelligence separately warned that Russia is planning political assassinations in Germany as part of an intensified hybrid conflict.
