Cyprus launches inspection campaign for children's clothing safety
The Consumer Protection Service of Cyprus has launched a nationwide inspection campaign focused on children's clothing for those aged up to 14. Running from October 12 to October 23, 2026, the initiative aims to ensure products comply with safety regulations, specifically regarding the presence of dangerous drawstrings and cords.
The checks will be conducted in retail stores across all districts of Cyprus. Officials are focusing on a wide range of items, including shirts, sweatshirts, pants, tracksuits, shorts, skirts, dresses, jackets, coats, and sleepwear. The primary concern is that cords on these garments can become entangled in playground equipment, doors, or trees, posing a significant risk of injury or strangulation to children.
This campaign is based on the General Product Safety Law of 2025. If inspectors identify non-compliant clothing, the authorities intend to take necessary measures, including the immediate removal of these items from the market to ensure public safety.
