Concerns raised over progress of KtiZo housing project in Cyprus
The Democratic Rally (DISY) party has publicly questioned the implementation progress of the 'KtiZo' housing scheme, three years after its inception. Poly Kourousidis, the party's Internal Affairs representative, formally requested that the government provide a detailed progress report and realistic timelines for each project site to ensure the safety and dignified living conditions of displaced families.
Launched with a 131-million-euro budget and a ten-year development horizon, the project was intended to revitalize government housing estates 52 years after the Turkish invasion. Despite government announcements in February 2025 promising the commencement of construction on at least five additional apartment buildings during the first half of that year, reports indicate that only one of the 19 planned buildings has been completed to date. The delays have resulted in significant government expenditure on temporary rental subsidies for displaced residents.
DISY continues to demand transparency regarding the project's milestones, questioning the management of funds and the reasons behind the stagnation. The government is currently under pressure to respond to these specific inquiries to justify the continued allocation of public resources toward temporary housing while permanent solutions remain largely unrealized.
