DISY criticizes government housing plan Ktizo and broader market failures
The Democratic Rally (DISY) party has formally requested that the government provide a detailed progress report and a realistic timeline for the 'Ktizo' housing project. Polys Kourousidis, the party's official for Interior Affairs, highlighted that three years after the project's launch, only one out of the 19 planned apartment buildings has been completed. The project, which has an initial budget of 131 million euros and a ten-year implementation horizon, was intended to secure dignified housing for displaced families. However, significant funds are reportedly being diverted to pay for temporary rental allowances due to construction delays, and government promises made in February 2025 regarding the start of five additional buildings have not been met.
Simultaneously, DISY has intensified its criticism of the government's broader housing policy, citing data from the Ministry of Interior that shows record-high rent costs. The party warns that the housing crisis now severely impacts young couples and the middle class, as older and once-affordable residential units have become increasingly expensive. DISY claims the government has failed to implement sufficient measures to stabilize prices and demands immediate state intervention to address the declining accessibility of housing across the country.
