Cyprus announces pilot social care mobile unit in Limassol
On Monday, October 12, 2026, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, announced the establishment of a new Mobile Social Care Unit. The project will initially launch as a pilot program in Limassol, aimed at providing personalized assistance to elderly citizens and vulnerable individuals who live alone or have limited mobility.
The initiative was unveiled during the 30th-anniversary celebration of the Limassol Adult Home (Estia Enilikon Lemesou). The unit will consist of a social worker, a nurse, and a caregiver. Services provided will include nursing care, assessment of living conditions, guidance on social rights, and daily practical assistance. This initiative involves collaboration between the Limassol Adult Home, the Social Welfare Services, the Limassol Municipality, and local social workers.
According to the government, this move is part of a broader philosophy to ensure that aging populations can live with dignity, autonomy, and security. The pilot phase aims to identify real-world needs and evaluate the efficacy of the model. Data gathered during this initial deployment will inform future decisions regarding the potential expansion of the service to other regions of the country.
