Limassol participates in the European CAREFABRIC urban development project
The Municipality of Limassol has officially joined the CAREFABRIC European project, an initiative funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe program. The project, which spans 42 months, aims to create sustainable and resilient neighborhoods by applying the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), focusing on integrating human needs, environmental protection, and cultural aesthetics within urban infrastructure.
In Limassol, the project will conduct pilot interventions in the area between the Municipal Garden and Enaerios, in collaboration with the University of Cyprus and the SocialTech Lab. These initiatives will prioritize natural shading, nature-based solutions, and the connectivity of public green and cultural spaces through participatory planning with local citizens and stakeholders.
The project is coordinated by the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and includes pilot applications in Umea, Bologna, Limassol, and Grenoble. During the inaugural meeting held on September 22–23, 2026, in Umea, partners established the project timeline and future actions. A consortium meeting is scheduled to be hosted in Limassol in 2027 to assess progress and coordinate further regional developments.
