Police conduct nationwide security operations across Cyprus
Cypriot police conducted a series of coordinated operations across the country on Wednesday night, October 14, 2026, aimed at preventing criminal activity, ensuring public order, and bolstering public safety. These operations involved organized patrols in key urban areas and intensive traffic and premises checks. Throughout the night, law enforcement officers stopped and checked 363 drivers and 100 passengers while inspecting 21 commercial premises.
As a direct result of these security measures, 17 individuals were arrested for various offenses, including illegal assembly, brawling, unlawful residency, drug possession, failing to appear in court, and driving under the influence. Traffic enforcement was a major focus, resulting in 195 reported violations, 31 of which were for speeding. Furthermore, officers opened seven traffic-related investigation cases and impounded four vehicles. Additional specialized testing included 85 alcohol breathalyzer tests, leading to three charges, and one preliminary drug test, which returned a positive result.
These activities follow a pattern of intensified daily policing efforts across Cyprus to deter crime. Authorities have confirmed that these patrol and inspection operations remain ongoing to maintain public order and address criminality effectively.
