Pafos FC faces Atalanta in Conference League opener

Pafos FC prepares for a high-profile opening match of the UEFA Conference League's League Phase, facing Italian side Atalanta at the Stadio di Bergamo tonight, October 15, 2026, at 22:00. The Cypriot team, managed by Ricardo Sa Pinto, arrived in Italy aiming for a positive result despite being considered the underdog against the 2024 Europa League winners. Sa Pinto will be without injured players David Goldar and Nicolas Ngamaleu for this challenging encounter.

This marks the third consecutive season that Pafos FC has competed in European competitions, a journey described as a significant growth milestone by sporting director Cristiano Giaretta. Approximately 300 traveling fans are expected to attend the match at the venue, which has undergone extensive renovations exceeding 100 million euros. The club has maintained a cautious but ambitious outlook, focusing on tactical discipline and team spirit to navigate the match against a squad with deep European experience and a valuation estimated in the hundreds of millions.

Looking ahead, this match represents the first of six fixtures for Pafos in the competition, with future opponents including Midtjylland, Hearts, Twente, Riga, and Mjällby. The team remains committed to its long-term project of establishing itself as a consistent presence in continental football.
