Speaker of the House Annita Demetriou attends the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament in Rome
The President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, is attending the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament in Rome, held from October 15 to 16, 2026. She is accompanied by the Deputy Director General of the House, Andreas Christodoulou, and Senior International Relations Officer Gabriella Marangou. The summit brings together heads of parliaments from member states of the Council of Europe and other international organizations.
The conference program focuses on three main pillars: strengthening resilient democracies against hybrid threats, the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market, and the role of parliaments in addressing modern global crises. Before the official proceedings, participants engaged in a working breakfast for female parliamentary speakers to discuss equality, human rights, and social media usage, resulting in the decision to sign a joint declaration.
In addition to the plenary sessions, Annita Demetriou is conducting a series of bilateral meetings with her counterparts from other Council of Europe member states. The event continues through October 16, providing a platform for legislative leaders to coordinate their responses to current international challenges.
