Larnaca municipality and Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence sign cooperation agreement

On October 12, 2026, the Municipality of Larnaca and the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence signed a memorandum of understanding to advance the digital transformation and sustainable development of the city. The agreement was formalized by Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras and Diophantos Hadjimitsis, representing the Eratosthenes Centre, with the presence of Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) board chair Mr. Karakatsanis.

The primary focus of this partnership is the implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This technology will enable the creation of a centralized digital platform that aggregates data regarding municipal infrastructure, public buildings, road networks, and ongoing construction projects. By visualizing these elements within a unified geographical framework, the city aims to improve service coordination, project planning, and data-driven decision-making.

Beyond urban digitalization, the memorandum outlines a commitment to environmental protection. The collaboration specifically targets the monitoring of the coastal front, utilizing satellite data to assess and manage coastal erosion. This initiative represents a strategic shift toward using innovative technological tools to support sustainable urban management and long-term environmental planning for Larnaca.
