Netflix secures exclusive broadcasting rights for 2030 World Cup in Spain and Andorra
Netflix has announced that it has secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain and Andorra. The platform will provide live coverage of all 104 matches of the tournament, including pre-match, halftime, and post-match shows. This move represents a significant expansion of the streaming service’s sports content portfolio.
The 2030 World Cup will mark the centenary of the first tournament, held in 1930 in Uruguay. Spain is set to co-host the competition alongside Morocco and Portugal. Bella Bajaria, Chief Content Officer at Netflix, emphasized the cultural significance of the event for the host nation. Beyond this deal, Netflix has deepened its collaboration with FIFA by acquiring rights to the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cups for the United States and Canada.
This acquisition fits into Netflix's broader strategy of incorporating major international sports events into its streaming offerings. The company already holds rights to professional leagues such as the NFL, MLB, and WWE, as well as various boxing and MMA events. The coverage of the 2030 tournament will ensure that fans across Spain and Andorra have access to the complete football schedule via the streaming platform.
