Kourion municipality named Green City of Cyprus 2025

The Municipality of Kourion was named the "Green City of Cyprus 2025" during an official ceremony held at the Presidential Palace. The municipality received two distinct awards as part of the Pancyprian Environmental Awards, an initiative organized by the Cyprus Center for Environmental Research and Education (CYCERE).

The first recognition was awarded for the "Reuse Smart" project, an application designed to facilitate the collection and reuse of unwanted furniture, thereby reducing waste. The second award was granted in the category of Urban Biodiversity for efforts to combat the invasive acacia species, which poses a significant threat to rare local flora, including the Cypriot orchid.

Mayor Pantelis Georgiou stated that these distinctions confirm the municipality's commitment to integrating environmental responsibility into daily practice and long-term development planning. He emphasized that these projects provide measurable benefits to residents while protecting the natural heritage for future generations, underscoring that sustainability remains a core pillar of the local government's strategy.
