Authorities investigate death of 51-year-old woman in Halkidiki

Authorities in Halkidiki have launched a criminal investigation into the death of a 51-year-old woman, identified as Ioanna A., who passed away on Monday, October 13, 2026, while undergoing dialysis at a private clinic. Although initial reports suggested potential medical complications during the procedure, the case was upgraded following a forensic examination conducted in Thessaloniki.

Forensic examiner Apostolia Akrivousi reported that the victim sustained severe injuries, including multiple chest and spinal fractures located on the right side of her body. The nature of these injuries, described as multiple breaks in different areas of the bones, suggests the victim suffered repeated falls rather than death by natural causes related to her underlying health condition.

Police from the Polygyros department are now treating the incident as a suspicious death. Investigators are scrutinizing the clinic’s operations to determine if the injuries were caused by negligence or other external factors. The facility remains under active investigation as police continue to gather evidence regarding the circumstances of the patient's death.
