Cyprus government advocates for modernization of national broadcaster CyBC
On October 13, 2026, during the 5th 'Timis Enneken' awards ceremony, President Nikos Christodoulides addressed the current state and future of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC/RIK). Represented by Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou, the President emphasized the necessity of resolving long-standing institutional issues and adapting the broadcaster to the demands of the modern digital era to ensure high-quality and timely information.
During the event, Pavlos Pavlou, Chairman of the CyBC Board of Directors, announced that the administration is developing a plan to construct a modern radio and television headquarters by utilizing the organization's existing land assets. Minister Ioannou responded that the government would carefully study this proposal and, subject to the approval of the Finance Minister, proceed with the construction project.
Additionally, the Board announced the formation of a new advisory committee. This body, composed of academics, philologists, Ministry of Education inspectors, and veteran journalists, is tasked with ensuring the proper use of the Greek language within the organization's broadcasts. The CyBC remains a critical institution for preserving Cyprus’s historical and cultural record while serving as a primary link for the Cypriot diaspora.
