Police investigate disappearance of body from Nicosia General Hospital mortuary
Authorities in Nicosia have launched an investigation following the reported disappearance of a body from the mortuary of the Nicosia General Hospital. The incident came to light when representatives from a Paphos funeral home arrived to collect the remains for repatriation to Britain, only to find the storage chamber empty.
The deceased was a British national who passed away in Paphos approximately one month ago. Due to the fact that the mortuary at the Paphos Hospital is currently non-operational, police had transported the body to Nicosia, where a forensic post-mortem examination was conducted to determine the causes of his unnatural death. Despite the official autopsy, there is no record of the body being moved from the Nicosia facility.
Police are currently examining the circumstances of the disappearance, including the possibility of unauthorized involvement by another funeral agency. Investigators are concerned about potential financial interests and unofficial arrangements that may have led to the body being taken without proper documentation. The investigation is ongoing as authorities attempt to locate the remains and clarify how such a significant administrative failure occurred.
