Department of Meteorology issues orange weather warning for Cyprus
The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued an orange weather warning set to take effect from 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14, until 5:00 AM on Thursday, October 15. The alert warns of heavy rainfall, with intensity expected to reach 55 to 70 millimetres per hour, alongside potential hail and strong gusts. Meteorologist Andreas Chrysanthou indicated that the system will likely strike the southwest of the island first before moving across other regions.
Conditions are forecast to include variable winds strengthening to 4-5 Beaufort, locally reaching 6 Beaufort, and seas becoming moderate to rough. Daytime temperatures are expected to peak at 26°C inland and on the coast, and 16°C in higher mountainous areas. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant, particularly motorists, as hazardous road conditions may arise due to the prolonged and heavy rainfall. While some isolated showers are expected to persist through Friday and Saturday, the primary weather front is anticipated to begin easing by Thursday morning.
