British bases police report 28 arrests in week-long crackdown
The Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) Police in Cyprus announced the arrest of 28 individuals following a series of operations conducted across the eastern and western parts of the island over the past seven days. Twenty-two arrests occurred in the western regions, while six took place in the eastern areas.
Among the western sector cases, police reported five arrests related to drug trafficking and one for suspected arson. In the Trachoni area, two individuals were detained after authorities discovered 35 grams of suspected cannabis and cocaine on October 8. On October 9, a follow-up operation in Ypsonas resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 20 grams of suspected cannabis, six grams of cocaine, and additional smaller quantities of the same substance. Furthermore, a man was arrested in connection with an arson incident on October 11 in Trachoni and is currently in custody, with a court appearance scheduled for October 22.
While the drug suspects in Trachoni and Ypsonas were released under bail conditions pending further court proceedings, the investigation remains active. Authorities continue to process evidence recovered during these operations.
