Cyprus hosts traditional autumn festivals celebrating zivania and palouzes
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, two distinct Cypriot villages will host cultural festivals celebrating traditional local products. The village of Pedoulas will hold its festival at the Folklore Museum from 11:00 to 17:00, focusing on palouzes and zivania, while the village of Alona will host its 15th Zivania Festival in the town square starting at 11:00.
Both events aim to promote Cypriot traditions, offering attendees free tastings of zivania and palouzes. The festival in Alona provides a comprehensive look at the production process, including grape pressing and traditional distillation methods. Pedoulas emphasizes community engagement, music, and traditional dancing. Attendees at both locations will have access to local markets featuring traditional foods, wines, cured meats, fruits, and nuts.
These annual gatherings serve as a seasonal celebration of the Troodos mountain region's culinary heritage and authentic hospitality. They provide an opportunity for both locals and visitors to experience firsthand the customs associated with the distillation of the famous Cypriot "water of life.
