FIFA prepares a $6.35 billion development fund for member associations
FIFA has announced plans to launch an unprecedented $6.35 billion development fund for its 211 member national associations over the next four-year cycle. According to reports from the Associated Press, this proposal represents a significant increase in financial support, raising the allocation per association to $25 million from the previously planned $10 million.
To finance this initiative, the organization intends to utilize over $3.5 billion from its financial reserves, which have grown substantially following the commercial success of the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup. Total revenue for the 2022-2026 cycle, which includes the upcoming tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is estimated to reach approximately $15 billion, exceeding initial projections. Additionally, each of the six continental confederations is expected to receive $99 million.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino noted in a letter to the confederations that the organization's current financial strength should be reinvested directly into the development of the sport worldwide. The proposal is currently awaiting finalization by the FIFA Council.
