Environmental awareness efforts in Cyprus via Let’s Do It! movement
The long-standing environmental campaign Let’s Do It! Cyprus continues to mobilize thousands of volunteers annually to clean beaches, forests, parks, and neighborhoods across the island. Since its inception, the initiative has recorded over 350,000 participations, focusing on the large-scale collection of waste and the promotion of environmental responsibility among the public.
Beyond the immediate goal of waste removal, the campaign emphasizes an experiential educational philosophy. Inspired by practices in Japan and Nordic countries, the movement aims to integrate public space maintenance into the upbringing of children. Organizers argue that by actively involving youth in cleaning their surroundings, they can foster a generation that will naturally maintain public spaces without needing external directives by 2050. The project views these actions as a long-term societal investment in shared civic responsibility.
