Fatal flooding strikes Rhodes as severe weather hits the island
On October 14, 2026, severe weather conditions triggered intense flooding across the Greek island of Rhodes, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man. The victim was swept away by rushing waters in the Stegna area of Archangelos. According to reports from the Coast Guard and local media, his vehicle was among several—estimated at two to four—that were dragged into the sea by the force of the floodwaters. The man was discovered on the beach, partially covered by debris, after he was reportedly unable to exit his vehicle.
Local infrastructure has been severely impacted, with major road networks rendered impassable and widespread traffic disruptions reported in Ialysos, Afantou, Faliraki, and Archangelos. Civil protection authorities issued an emergency 112 alert, urging citizens to limit travel. The Mayor of Rhodes, Alexandros Koliadis, has been coordinating with regional authorities and reportedly requested that the island be declared in a state of emergency to manage the crisis. Rescue operations are currently ongoing in the affected areas as authorities clear roads and assess the full extent of the environmental damage.
