Cypriot shooting team under investigation for unsportsmanlike conduct in Malakasa
Cypriot sports authorities are investigating an incident involving a national shooting team at the European Shooting Championship in Malakasa, Greece. During the men's team skeet final, which determined the gold and silver medalists, the Cypriot trio composed of Sotiris Antoniou, Giorgos Achilleos, and Dimitris Konstantinou engaged in a dispute with officials over a refereeing decision. Disagreeing with the judgment, the athletes and their coach demonstratively walked off the competition field.
As a consequence of this action, the Cypriot team was disqualified and their performance was annulled. The incident is currently being examined by the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) and the Committee for Ethics and Protection of Sports (EDPA) following formal complaints regarding unsportsmanlike behavior. KOA President Giannis Ioannou confirmed that the investigation into the matter began on October 12, 2026, noting that such behavior negatively impacts the reputation of Cypriot sports and the country at large. Further disciplinary actions or potential international sanctions from governing bodies remain possible as the investigation progresses.
