Trial of Russell Brand begins in London over historical sexual assault allegations
British actor and comedian Russell Brand, 51, appeared at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday to face trial for a series of historical sexual offences. Prosecutors allege that Brand acted as a "predator" between 1999 and 2009, targeting six women at work or social events. The indictment includes three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The prosecution stated that Brand’s behavior was indiscriminate, ignoring the refusal or lack of consent from his victims.
Brand, who was a prominent broadcaster during the period in question and is the former husband of singer Katy Perry, has categorically denied all accusations. Upon arriving at court, the defendant expressed that he felt "blessed" and hopeful for a positive outcome for all parties involved. Brand has recently rebranded himself as an anti-establishment influencer and proponent of the Christian faith. The trial, which centers on allegations dating back over a decade, is expected to continue until December. The defense will present its arguments later in the proceedings.
