Michalis Vorkas re-elected as president of the Cyprus Bar Association
Michalis Vorkas was re-elected as president of the Cyprus Bar Association on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Running unopposed, Vorkas secured a new three-year term lasting from 2026 to 2029. During the association's regular General Assembly, he presented 14 strategic goals focused on elevating the professional standing of Cypriot lawyers both domestically and within international organizations.
His agenda emphasizes a policy of zero tolerance toward unethical conduct and advocates for mutual respect between lawyers and other judicial officers. Vorkas stated that the association will maintain a firm stance on institutional reforms, specifically demanding the full completion of judicial reforms across all levels and the rigorous application of new Civil Procedure Rules. He further committed to supporting both large firms and solo practitioners, asserting that no major industry decisions will be made without the direct involvement of the legal profession.
This election marks a continuation of his previous leadership strategy, which has focused on institutional development and professional standards. Following his re-election, Vorkas is tasked with overseeing the implementation of his proposed commitments, ensuring the legal body remains influential in ongoing judicial reform efforts.
