EAC clarifies nature of infrastructure works in Larnaca
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has dismissed reports claiming the construction of a new distribution substation at the DIPA building in Larnaca. In an official statement issued on October 14, 2026, the organization clarified that recent onsite activities were strictly limited to the maintenance and modernization of existing facilities that have been in operation since 1967.
The upgrades were necessitated by the ongoing urban redevelopment project covering Akropoleos and Alkis squares. As these works involved the construction of new sidewalks and the undergrounding of utility services, the EAC performed technical maintenance, which included replacing aging equipment, installing new low-voltage cables, and substituting a transformer. The authority emphasized that these measures were essential to ensure the continued reliability of power supply to the building and the surrounding area.
EAC officials reiterated that no new substation was commissioned, characterizing the misinformation regarding new construction as unfounded. The project remains a standard operational update tied to municipal infrastructure improvements rather than the expansion of the distribution network.
