EU Commissioner Kostas Kadis to visit Greenland for maritime cooperation
European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Kostas Kadis, is set to visit Greenland on October 15 and 16, 2026. The visit aims to strengthen collaboration between the European Union and Greenland regarding ocean governance, sustainable fisheries, and the development of the blue economy. This mission follows recent visits to the region by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen, which resulted in a tripartite joint statement involving the EU, Greenland, and Denmark.
During his two-day stay, Commissioner Kadis will tour key facilities including the Royal Greenland A/S company, the Greenland Fisheries and Hunting Authority, and the border inspection post in Nuuk. He is scheduled to meet with local officials overseeing foreign affairs and Arctic cooperation, as well as Minister Peter Borg, who manages fisheries, hunting, and agriculture. Furthermore, on October 16, Kadis will visit the University of Greenland and the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources to discuss marine science, fish stock assessments, and scientific advisory processes. These engagements are intended to deepen technical and political ties between the EU and the Arctic territory.
