AEL Limassol eyes top spot in Cyprus League against Omonia Aradippou
AEL Limassol, currently tied for first place in the Cyprus League with 12 points, faces Omonia Aradippou today, October 18, 2026, at 18:00 at the AEK Arena. Under coach Hugo Martins, the team is looking for its fourth consecutive league victory, marking a significant turnaround from their poor performance during the same period in the 2022-23 season. AEL aims to maintain its position at the top while managing several roster challenges.
The squad for the match is depleted due to suspensions and injuries. Key players Cafu and Joao Tavares are suspended, while Zoke, Almeida, Peti, Karamani, Gomis, and Catakovic remain unavailable. Despite these absences, Martins is expected to field a competitive side, potentially adjusting his tactical formation to ensure continuity. The team will also be missing significant fan support due to a disciplinary ban on traveling spectators.
Omonia Aradippou, coached by Giannos Okkas, enters the match with six points from five games and aims to recover from their recent 1-0 loss to AEK. The match carries extra significance for Martins, as he previously led Omonia Aradippou to promotion and stability in the first division. Both teams view this as a crucial test to maintain their current momentum in the league standings.
