Patient in critical condition after medical error at Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center
A 40-year-old woman is currently in critical condition at the Nicosia General Hospital following a severe medical error that occurred on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center. The patient was mistakenly administered an enteral nutrition formula intravenously, which is intended exclusively for digestive tract use and is not safe for direct bloodstream injection. Following the incorrect administration, the patient suffered immediate health complications, including severe dyspnea, a drop in oxygen saturation, and tachycardia, requiring an emergency transfer to the Nicosia General Hospital.
In response to the incident, the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Center has officially confirmed the occurrence and announced the initiation of an internal investigation to clarify the circumstances and identify how such an error was possible. The facility stated that it is currently prioritizing the care of the patient and support for her family. While hospital authorities have pledged full transparency regarding the investigation results, they have declined further comment due to ongoing investigations and patient confidentiality. Official investigations are currently underway to address the failure in medical protocols.
