Patient in stable condition after medical error at Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre
A 40-year-old female patient is currently recovering in a stable condition at the Nicosia General Hospital following a serious medical error that occurred on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. While receiving treatment at the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, the patient was mistakenly administered an enteral nutrition formula intravenously. Such preparations are designed exclusively for the digestive system and are not intended for direct introduction into the bloodstream.
Following the administration of the formula, the patient experienced severe respiratory distress, a drop in oxygen saturation, and an increased heart rate. She was urgently transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department of Nicosia General Hospital, where she received immediate medical intervention, including intravenous fluids. As of October 16, state health services (OKYPY) officials reported that her condition had stabilized and she no longer faces immediate danger, with no major complications noted.
The administration of the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre has formally launched an internal investigation to determine the specific circumstances and causes behind the error. The centre has pledged full transparency regarding the results of the inquiry and has prioritized the patient's care and the support of her family throughout the ongoing process.
