Recent rainfall across Cyprus benefits the agricultural sector
Recent heavy rainfall across Cyprus, particularly in mountainous regions, has been welcomed by the agricultural sector as highly beneficial for crops, including cereal production. Agricultural organizations reported that the soil has effectively absorbed the moisture, preventing flooding or significant damage to farmland.
According to Panikos Hampas, General Secretary of the EKA, and Christos Papapetrou, President of the PEK, no reports of substantial agricultural damage have been received. While the heavy rains caused a temporary power outage in several farms located in Lympia, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) intervened promptly and successfully restored the power supply. The Department of Agriculture has not recorded any significant losses following the weather event on October 14, 2026.
Agricultural experts view this weather as a positive development, noting that the moisture penetration into the soil is ideal for current agricultural needs. There are no ongoing concerns or emergency actions required, as the conditions remain stable and supportive of agricultural development across the island.
