Cyprus government prepares to submit pension reform bill
Cypriot Minister of Labour Marinos Mousiouttas announced that the updated pension reform bill will be provided to social partners by October 16, 2026. The government aims to submit the legislation to the Council of Ministers and the Parliament as soon as possible, maintaining a target implementation date of January 1, 2027.
Following a session of the Labor Advisory Body, Minister Mousiouttas noted that the discussions took place in a constructive climate despite existing differences of opinion. Officials have already received written feedback from the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEBE) and are currently awaiting input from the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB). In addition to pension reforms, the sessions also addressed the taxation of dividends to resolve long-term economic and social security concerns.
The Minister indicated that while the goal is swift submission, the legislative process allows for additions and modifications even after the bill is formally introduced. The government remains focused on meeting the established timeline to ensure the reforms become effective at the start of the new year.
