Cyprus and Greece hold joint workshop on juvenile delinquency prevention
On October 15, 2026, a specialized workshop on preventing violence and juvenile delinquency was held at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. The event, part of the intergovernmental cooperation between Cyprus and Greece, was attended by Irene Piki, Deputy Minister to the President of Cyprus, and a delegation of Greek experts.
The Greek delegation was led by Dr. Vassiliki Artinopoulou, Professor of Criminology at Panteion University and head of the Greek government's Scientific Committee on Violence and Juvenile Delinquency, accompanied by Dr. Triantafyllos Karatrantos, an expert in violence prevention and public policy. Participants included representatives from the Cypriot judiciary, the Attorney General's Office, various government ministries, and the Offices of the Commissioner for Children's Rights and the Commissioner for Gender Equality. The session focused on exchanging best practices and leveraging Greek experiences in early intervention strategies.
This initiative follows discussions initiated during an intergovernmental meeting in Athens last year, reflecting the priority both nations place on addressing the rising issue of youth delinquency. The collaboration aims to improve current practices and policies through cross-border expertise and knowledge sharing, with stakeholders committed to integrating these findings into their national strategies.
