Investigation into the death of Giorgos Mazonakis continues in Kolonaki
Authorities have conducted a new inspection at a private medical practice on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki, where singer Giorgos Mazonakis died on September 9 during a medical procedure. The search, carried out under the direction of an investigating judge and in the presence of a prosecutor, resulted in the seizure of two vials of Demoxate, which contains flumazenil. Flumazenil is a known antidote used to reverse the effects of benzodiazepines. Toxicology results have revealed the presence of eight different substances in the artist's bloodstream, including propofol, midazolam, and flumazenil.
The two doctors involved, a 56-year-old woman and her husband, are currently in custody. Reports suggest that the defense strategy is shifting, with the female doctor now claiming that the procedure performed was 'inuaferesis' rather than plasmapheresis, and that the patient's underlying health condition was a contributing factor. Meanwhile, investigators are examining digital evidence, staff communications, and the potential unauthorized use of sedatives. A memorial service for the artist was held recently, while the legal process and technical examination of the clinic’s equipment continue to determine the exact cause of death.
