NEDISY supports the proposed teacher appointment system reform in Cyprus
On October 15, 2026, Dimos Georgiadis, President of the Youth Organization of the Democratic Rally (NEDISY) and Member of Parliament for Kyrenia, announced the organization's official support for the government’s proposed reform of the teacher appointment system in Cyprus. This stance follows a series of consultations held by NEDISY with educators, relevant stakeholders, and the Minister of Education to address public concerns.
The reform aims to modernize the current educational appointment framework to make it more meritocratic, fair, and efficient. NEDISY has officially presented its proposals during these discussions, advocating for the immediate implementation of the new legislation. The organization maintains that modernizing the system is essential for the long-term advancement of public education quality in the country.
However, NEDISY’s support is conditional. Georgiadis emphasized that the reform must guarantee the professional rights of teachers currently employed within the system. The organization stated that there is no justification for further delays in the implementation of the reform, provided these specific labor safeguards are fully integrated into the transition process.
