Two workers injured in industrial accident at Motor Oil refinery
On Thursday afternoon, October 15, 2026, an explosion occurred at the Motor Oil refinery in Agioi Theodoroi, Corinth, Greece. The incident took place at unit 750 during scheduled maintenance work on a high-pressure heat exchanger while the facility was undergoing a temporary shutdown.
Two contract workers were injured in the blast. While both were transported to the General Hospital of Corinth for specialized medical care, reports on their injuries vary: one source states both suffered multiple injuries, burns, and inhalation of hazardous gases, while another specifies that one worker sustained burns and the other suffered fractures. Doctors are currently evaluating whether they require intubation and transfer to a specialized hospital in the Attica region.
This incident follows a previous fatal accident at the refinery that occurred only days prior and comes just 24 hours after a strike by workers demanding improved safety measures at the plant. Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the explosion, and an investigation into the circumstances of the event is expected to follow.
