Omonia secures impressive away win against Celje in Europa League
Omonia Nicosia achieved a commanding 3-0 victory over Slovenian side Celje on October 15, 2026, in the second round of the Europa League League Phase. The win marks the Cypriot team's second consecutive victory in the tournament, bringing their total to six points and significantly boosting their chances for qualification to the next stage.
The goals were scored by Jayson Montnor in the 17th minute—his first for the club—Muamer Tanković in the 59th minute, and Senou Coulibaly in the 85th minute. An earlier effort by Dioni in the 9th minute was disallowed following a video assistant referee review for a handball. Omonia dominated the match with a disciplined tactical display, limiting Celje's opportunities while capitalizing on defensive errors.
Beyond the sporting achievement, the win adds €450,000 to the club's coffers as a match bonus, supplementing their existing European earnings which exceed €5 million. Manager Henning Berg praised his team's defensive and attacking balance, as well as their tactical discipline throughout the 90 minutes. The squad now turns its attention to upcoming domestic fixtures before preparing for their next high-profile European clash against Benfica.
