Cyprus ministry approves 10,000 additional flu vaccine doses for private sector
The Cyprus Ministry of Health has officially confirmed the distribution of 10,000 doses of the Vaxigrip TIV flu vaccine to private pharmacies and physicians within the next two weeks. This decision follows urgent interventions by the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association and the Pancyprian Medical Association (PIS) regarding supply shortages. The move aims to mitigate the disruption caused by the cancellation of thousands of Viatris Influvac orders for the 2026-2027 season, ensuring that medical professionals outside the national health system (GeSY) can access vaccines for their patients.
While this allocation covers part of the private market's needs, the public sector is still awaiting the arrival of 110,000 Vaxigrip doses. According to the ministry's deputy director-general, Elisavet Konstantinou, these public stocks have been released by the manufacturer and are expected in Cyprus within two weeks. Meanwhile, 60,000 doses of the enhanced Efluelda vaccine for elderly patients have already been delivered. These logistical adjustments in Cyprus mirror broader supply delays affecting several European nations during the current flu season.
