Cyprus ministry secures flu vaccines for private pharmacies
The Cyprus Ministry of Health confirmed on Friday that 10,000 doses of the Vaxigrip TIV flu vaccine will be available for private pharmacies within the next two weeks. This arrangement, coordinated through Sanofi’s local representative, was officially communicated to the Pancyprian Pharmaceutical Association to help mitigate shortages caused by the sudden cancellation of Viatris’s Influvac orders for the 2026-2027 season one week ago.
While this allocation aims to stabilize the private market, the public sector is still awaiting its own shipment of 110,000 Vaxigrip doses. According to deputy director-general Elisavet Konstantinou, those public doses have been released by the manufacturing plant and are expected to arrive in Cyprus within the next two weeks. Meanwhile, 60,000 doses of Efluelda, an enhanced vaccine for the elderly, have already been successfully delivered to the island. These logistical challenges follow broader supply chain disruptions reported across several European countries.
