Despina Kyprianou re-elected as Vice President of the CCPE
On October 15, 2026, Republic Prosecutor Dr. Despina Kyprianou was unanimously re-elected as Vice President of the Bureau of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE) at the Council of Europe. Dr. Kyprianou, who first assumed this role in October 2025, remains the only Cypriot to have ever held this position. Her re-election is considered a significant recognition of both her professional work and the legal services of the Republic of Cyprus.
The CCPE, established by the Committee of Ministers in 2005, serves as an advisory body comprising high-ranking officials from the prosecution services of member states. Its primary objective is to strengthen the rule of law by defining and promoting the role of prosecution authorities. The body provides expert opinions to the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers on issues related to the functioning of prosecutors and the administration of criminal justice. Dr. Kyprianou has maintained a long-standing and active role within the council, representing the body at various international conferences and meetings.
