DISY deputy criticizes government over low funding for Famagusta
On October 16, 2026, Giorgos Lysandridis, a member of the DISY party, publicly criticized the government following a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance. He argued that the proposed budget for the Ministry of Transport significantly neglects the free Famagusta district, following similar concerns previously raised regarding the Limassol region.
According to data presented by Lysandridis, the Ministry of Transport’s total budget for 2026 is 1.37 billion euros. Of this amount, only 38 million euros are allocated to Famagusta, representing less than 3% of the total funds. The deputy condemned this distribution, claiming that the government prioritizes political appointments over necessary infrastructure and development projects in the area.
This criticism highlights ongoing regional tensions regarding the equitable distribution of state resources. Lysandridis asserted that the current investment level is insufficient to support the district's needs, accusing the government of failing to deliver on substantive infrastructure development.
