CyBC establishes Greek Language Observatory to improve broadcasting standards
The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) has announced the establishment of an advisory committee known as the 'Greek Language Observatory.' The initiative, publicized on October 16, 2026, aims to address frequent linguistic and expressive errors made by staff, journalists, and guests during television and radio broadcasts. This move is presented as part of the organization's institutional responsibility to maintain high standards of public information, education, and culture.
The committee will be composed of philologists, senior officials from the Ministry of Education, and journalists who will serve on a voluntary basis. In addition to monitoring language usage, the CyBC plans to develop and publish a specialized linguistic manual. This handbook is intended to serve as a practical guide for media professionals and will be modeled after similar documentation used by advanced European media networks to ensure clarity and accuracy in both oral and written communication.
