Cyprus hosts conference on anti-human trafficking efforts
On October 16, 2026, the Ministry of Justice and Public Order of Cyprus organized a conference titled "Prevention and Combatting of Human Trafficking – Victim Support" at the Journalists' House in Nicosia. The event served as a precursor to the European Anti-Trafficking Day, which is commemorated on October 18.
Minister of Justice and Public Order Costas Fytiris addressed the participants, identifying human trafficking as a major government priority. He highlighted the evolving nature of this criminal activity, noting that digital platforms and social media are increasingly utilized by criminal networks to facilitate sexual exploitation, forced labor, and child exploitation.
To address these modern threats, the Ministry has initiated a public consultation process regarding a legislative amendment. This bill aims to integrate a new European Directive into national law, thereby strengthening the legal framework for combating trafficking and improving the identification and protection of victims. The initiative reflects the government's broader policy to eradicate all forms of violence, coercion, and exploitation.
