Eighth arrest made in Nicosia teenager assault case
Police in Cyprus have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the violent assault of another 16-year-old in the Nicosia suburb of Latsia. The incident occurred on October 9, 2026, when a group of individuals reportedly attacked the victim, resulting in injuries including a broken nose. This latest arrest brings the total number of suspects detained to eight.
Authorities had previously apprehended seven other individuals on October 14. Following investigations, one person was released due to a lack of evidence, while the remaining six suspects were remanded in custody for five days by the Nicosia District Court. The newly arrested 16-year-old was scheduled to appear before the Nicosia District Court on October 17 to face a remand hearing to assist with further inquiries.
The Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) of Nicosia continues its investigation into the circumstances of the attack. Initial reports indicated that the group involved in the assault on the victim included minors, with ages ranging between 14 and 21 years old. Further legal proceedings for the six previously remanded suspects are expected to continue next week.
