Police arrest nine suspects following violent assault on teenager in Latsia

Police in Cyprus have arrested nine individuals in connection with a violent assault on a 16-year-old in the Nicosia suburb of Latsia. The incident occurred on the evening of October 9, 2026, shortly after 8:00 p.m. Medical examinations confirmed the victim suffered a broken nasal bone, along with facial swelling and bruising, after being attacked by a group of peers.

Initially, seven individuals were arrested on October 13, 2026, for the purpose of facilitating the investigation. One of these individuals was released due to a lack of evidence, while the other six were remanded in custody for five days. Following further inquiries, authorities arrested a 16-year-old on October 16 and a 17-year-old on October 17. These two recent suspects appeared before the Nicosia District Court on October 17, which issued a two-day detention order for both. The Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) continues to lead the investigation into the circumstances of the attack.
