Omonia draws 2-2 with Olympiakos Nicosia amid injury concerns

Omonia Nicosia concluded the 6th round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Olympiakos Nicosia at the GSP Stadium on October 19, 2026. Despite falling behind 0-2 due to defensive errors, Henning Berg's team managed to secure a point with a late goal in stoppage time. Coach Berg made four changes to the starting lineup, rotating players to manage the demands of the league and European schedule. During the match, defender Senou Coulibaly was substituted in the 61st minute due to an injury, the extent of which remains a concern ahead of upcoming fixtures.

Following this result, Omonia faces significant scheduling pressure. The team is preparing for their upcoming Europa League match against Benfica on October 22, followed by an away derby against AEK Larnaca on October 26. David Akintola remains sidelined with a muscle injury, though he is expected to return for the AEK clash. The coaching staff faces challenges in managing player fitness while balancing the demands of domestic and European competitions, as several players remain ineligible for the European squad list.
