Omonia secures late draw against Olympiacos in Cyprus League

Omonia Nicosia played to a 2-2 draw against Olympiacos on October 19, 2026, during the sixth round of the Cyprus League. Despite entering the match with high morale following a 3-0 victory over Celje in the Europa League, Omonia fell behind 0-2 in the first half due to defensive errors. The team, managed by Henning Berg, improved significantly in the second half, with Evandro scoring to narrow the deficit before Junior equalized in the 90+12th minute to salvage a point.

Coach Henning Berg cited fatigue from the club's demanding European schedule as a contributing factor to the performance. The match was marked by an injury to defender Senou Coulibaly, who was forced off the pitch in the 61st minute and replaced by Loic Nego. While the team showed resilience, the draw leaves them trailing league leaders AEL in the standings. Omonia will now focus on their upcoming Europa League fixture against Benfica on October 22, followed by a domestic derby against AEK Larnaca on October 26. Forward David Akintola remains sidelined due to injury but is expected to return for the AEK clash.
