Cyprus police to launch nationwide safety campaign for cyclists and e-scooter users
The Cyprus Police have announced a nationwide road safety campaign targeting cyclists and users of Personal Mobility Devices (PMD), scheduled to take place from Monday, October 19, 2026, through Sunday, October 25, 2026. During this period, traffic police officers will conduct intensive inspections across the island to address dangerous road behaviors.
The enforcement efforts will focus on violations including driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, disregarding red traffic lights, and failing to wear approved protective helmets. These measures are being implemented in response to persistent safety concerns on the road network.
Statistical data provided by the authorities indicates that ten cyclists died in road accidents between 2021 and 2025. Furthermore, in the period from January 1, 2026, to October 16, 2026, one cyclist and two users of Personal Mobility Devices have lost their lives in traffic-related incidents. The campaign aims to mitigate these risks by promoting compliance with traffic laws.
