Ministry of Agriculture announces farmer support and discusses infrastructure projects
The Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has announced a new support scheme for farmers to mitigate rising costs of colored agricultural fuel. Funded entirely by the European Union under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1894 and a Cabinet decision from September 16, 2026, the aid covers expenses incurred between April 1 and October 31, 2026. Beneficiaries can receive up to €0.126 per liter, with a maximum cap of €5,000 per applicant. The scheme is scheduled for official announcement in the first half of November 2026.
In related developments, Minister Christos Senekis emphasized the government's commitment to modernizing the primary sector through the 2023–2027 Common Agricultural Policy, which holds a total budget of €454 million. During recent appearances at the Kolotzi Festival in Moutoullas and the Alassa Festival, the Minister highlighted that over €200 million is being invested in water infrastructure to reduce dependence on weather conditions. Additional funding of €5,000 has been allocated for the restoration of the irrigation system in Moutoullas, alongside €2,000 provided for the local festival. These initiatives aim to strengthen the resilience of agricultural producers against both regional economic crises and long-term climatic challenges.
