New infrastructure projects announced for Souni-Zanakia community
On Sunday, October 18, 2026, the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, officially inaugurated a new Community Nursery in the Souni-Zanakia area. During the ceremony, the President announced government plans to construct a new primary school to accommodate the local youth, noting that over 150 children currently must travel to Limassol for their education.
Furthermore, the President confirmed that funding has been secured for a new multi-purpose center, with an initial expenditure of 400,000 euros allocated for this year. These initiatives are part of a broader government strategy to support rural development and address the country's demographic challenges. President Christodoulides emphasized that Cyprus currently faces a birth rate of 1.3, which is significantly lower than the 2.1 threshold required for population replacement. By improving infrastructure and services in smaller communities, the government aims to create more stable conditions for young families to reside outside major urban centers.
