Alexandros Kaminaras re-elected as mayor of Velké Meziříčí
Alexandros Kaminaras, an architect and urban planner of Cypriot descent, has been re-elected as the mayor of the Czech city of Velké Meziříčí following municipal elections held earlier this month. His political coalition, 'Společné VM', secured a decisive victory with 54.29% of the vote, granting them 14 out of the 23 seats available in the municipal council, an increase of one seat compared to his previous term.
Born in Nicosia to a Cypriot father and a Czech mother, Kaminaras moved to the Czech Republic at the age of seven. He holds a degree in architecture and urban planning from the Czech Technical University in Prague. In 2020, at the age of 28, he made national history by becoming the youngest mayor ever to serve in the Czech Republic.
His re-election confirms public approval of his administration’s performance during his initial term, characterized by his focus on urban planning and sustainable municipal development. The town of Velké Meziříčí, located in the Vysočina region, has a population of approximately 11,000 residents.
